Announcements:

Math:

Students will take their math unit assessment over measurement and line plots. The study guide is attached below.

Grammar:

Students are reviewing conjunctions and sentence types. 

Reading:

Students will continue learning about character's point of view and how it is similar and different than their own. 

Writing:  

Students will continue learning how opinion writing can change the world. They will study a cause a complete their petitions. 

Science: 

Students will learn about weathering and erosion. They will also begin studying about the different soil types, focusing specifically on sand, clay, and loam.

Week of February 24 - February 28

Just a reminder that parent teacher conferences are coming up soon. You will be getting a confirmation of student conference times and dates from your child's teacher.

Students will learn how to measure items to the nearest 1/2 inch and plot them on a line plot.

Grammar:

Students will learn how to capitalize the titles of books, movies, and magazines. 

Reading:

Students will continue learning about how character's point of view, and how it is similar or different to our own point of view.

Students will learn about equivalent fractions and how to compare them using a number line and other fraction models.

Grammar: 

Students will identify sentence types: simple, compound, and complex, and practice writing them.

Reading:

We will continue our focus on a character's point of view, and how it differs from our own point of view. 

Writing:

Students will use opinion writing that can change the world! They will study a cause and create petitions. 

Science:

Investigations of rocks and minerals continues this week with a Scavenger Hunt and exploration of Geology Boxes. They will be building their own rock collections!

Students will learn how to partition shapes and number lines into equal parts. Students will understand that a fraction is formed when a whole part is partitioned into equal parts.  Introduction to Fractions

Reading:

We are focusing on a character's point of view, and how it differs from our own point of view. 

Writing:

Students are writing petitions and letters to bring about the changes they want to see in our school, and in their own life.

Students will continue learning about British Colonial America.  We will discuss what life was like in each of the regions (New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern) and explore different types of occupations. We will review for our Unit 5 Assessment  (Colonial America Study Guide). 

Week of January 27-31

Announcements:

Gifted testing session is coming up. If you are interested in having your child tested for gifted, you may nominate him or her by completing a parent nomination form and providing work samples that demonstrate your child’s gifted traits.  Please email your child's teacher for a nomination form. All forms are DUE BY JANUARY 31st.

Just a reminder, if your student had previously qualified for spectrum they do not need to be retested.

Friday, January 31 - Unit 4 Math test

Friday, February 26 - Science Expo project due. Please see the flyer that went home in your child's Wednesday folder or the link for additional information. We encourage all students to participate.

Students will begin discussing shapes and their attributes. Students will sort shapes based on their shared attributes (i.e. number of sides). 

Reading: Students will begin locating text features in a nonfiction text and using them to find information about a topic. Some examples of text features include key words, captions, and timelines.

Grammar: Students will learn how to use a glossary and dictionary to find the meaning of a word. Students will focus on using guide words to help them locate words in a dictionary and glossary.

Writing: Students will create a writing piece depicting their live as a 100 year old. Students will also begin creating Zines to persuade readers on how to help gorillas.
